Wildbad
.
Situated idyllically in a forest valley, the Wildbad of Burgbernheim continues to be a popular destination, as it has been for centuries. This cluster of protected historic monuments near several mineral-rich springs has a colorful past. The oldest buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries fell victim to the Thirty Years’ War.
In the 18th and 19th centuries the spa operations experienced a spectacular revival as a favorite watering place of the margraves of Ansbach and their aristocratic friends. The two main buildings with their connecting passage are from that time, as is the straight path leading from the Wildbad to the “Teufelshäuschen” viewing platform on the heights above.
A Kneipp sanatorium (health resort) was opened in 1951 following a thorough renovation. When a new tenant could not be found, operations ceased in 1968. Following a succession of residents and managers, the Wildbad passed into private ownership in 1980. Today’s “Hotel-Waldgasthof” (Hotel and Forest Inn) with its justly famous cuisine is eminently suitable for family celebrations, meetings and travel groups.
